South Central Public Health Training Center
In response to a pressing need to address the workforce demands of this new century in public health, four state public health departments and two schools of public health have formed a strategic alliance to develop a comprehensive, regional approach to professional workforce development. The public health agencies in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi, together with the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (TSPHTM) and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health (UABSPH) constitute the South Central Public Health Training Center (SCPHTC).
The SCPHTC aims to strengthen the technical, scientific, managerial and leadership competence of our current workforce.
The courses and opportunities offered are grounded in core public health functions and essential services. The curriculum is designed in response to the needs identified through the assessment of public health employees in these four states and will be delivered through distance education technologies.
